Stopcocks Group, the organisation behind the Women Installers Together (WIT) conference, is working to create a not-for-profit National Register of Tradeswomen.

Due to the pandemic, the WIT conference has been postponed till 2021, so the group is now looking at other priorities, including a new register for women installers.

The current restrictions on activity, they say, has brought to light the plight of vulnerable women who don’t feel safe having tradesmen in their homes, especially if they experiencing domestic violence, or are escaping from it. It is thought that a not-for-profit national registry of tradeswomen could be an important resource for women in this situation.

In a recent press statement, Stopcocks said:

“We have received some excellent pro bono support from Addleshaw Goddard LLP who are drawing up our legal paperwork and helping us to set up the CIC (Community Interest Company). We are looking for funds to build the technology. We are looking for sponsors to help set this up. We have got great deals with tech suppliers so the costs aren’t massive. We’re going to use a robust platform that doesn’t just list, but verifies all the tradeswomen.

“Now is the time for women plumbers, heating engineers and all other women in skilled trades to contact us and express your interest.”

Stopcocks is looking to raise £15,000 to get the national register going and is reaching out to potential sponsors and supporters.

Interested parties can email mica@stopcocks.uk with queries about being a sponsor, or to pass on ideas on accessing funds.
