A free online toolkit has been launched by Powered Now to help self-employed heating and plumbing tradespeople navigate the changes to tax reporting. The downloadable Making Tax Digital for Income Tax (MTD IT) toolkit aims to provide clear, practical guidance, covering what MTD IT is, who it applies to, and what steps tradespeople need to take before the new rules come into force, with timelines, readiness checklists, and practical advice that users can put into practice.
MTD IT will come into force from April, with sole traders earning over £50,000 annually required to keep digital financial records and send tax updates online every quarter. However, research conducted by the job management software provider found that only 27% of those surveyed knew anything about MTD IT, and just 23% have taken preparatory action.
