A five-day charity challenge has been announced by Wilo UK which will see a group of colleagues virtually cycle 1700 miles with the aim to raise £10,000 for Maggie’s cancer support centres. From 7th – 11th June, Wilo staff will embark on a challenge to cycle the distance from Wilo UK HQ, in Burton-Upon-Trent, Staffordshire, to the new state-of-the-art Wilopark factory in Dortmund, Germany.

Because of the current travel restrictions put in place due to the pandemic, the Wilo team will be making up the total mileage ‘virtually’ on static exercise bikes set up at Wilo’s HQ and out and about individually on road bikes. The challenge will begin at Wilo UK HQ and pass through several stops in France, including Aubigny and Laval – where Wilo has production facilities. The team will then virtually pass through into Germany, stopping in Saarbrucken, Hof, Oschersleben and arriving at the final destination in Dortmund.

Maggie’s is a charity providing free cancer support and information in centres across the UK and online. Maggie’s centres help people to take back control when cancer turns life upside down, with professional support for anything from treatment side effects to money worries. It costs around £2,400 to run a Maggie’s centre for a day, so Wilo’s contribution will be a big help in helping to support those with life changing diagnoses.

Lee Tebbatt, MD of Wilo UK, comments: “We know the pandemic has been tough for many charities and an extremely worrying time for those living with cancer and their families. Maggie’s offers fantastic support for those in need and we wanted to ensure their incredible hard work continues. At Wilo, we’re not ones to shy away from a challenge so we thought an extremely ambitious cycle ride was a great way to raise those all-important funds, as well as getting the team together for a bit of fun as lockdown restrictions begin to ease.”

All funds raised will go direct to Maggie’s. You can donate here: https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/wilocycle2021
