Aimed at young professionals in the gas industry, the Institute of Gas Engineers & Managers’ Young Persons Paper Competition (YPPC) offers the chance to win an all-inclusive trip to a far-flung destination. The competition also allows young gas professionals to enjoy the spotlight and receive recognition for their work in front of a diverse audience of industry movers and shakers.
The competition is open to anyone aged 18-35 working or studying in a gas-related field. Entrants don’t have to be engineers or IGEM members; they only need to be able to write a 250-word paper and deliver a 15 minute presentation about a gas-related project they have been involved in. The top prize is a once-in-a-lifetime trip, with the 2018 winner preparing to head to the 24th World Energy Congress in Abu Dhabi later this year and the 2017 champion recently returned from the World Gas Conference in Washington DC.
Jordan Rowbottom, Chair of IGEM’s Young Persons Network, says: “Whether you work in pipeline design, marketing, or even if you’re still studying, if you’re involved in the gas industry in some way, and you’re between 18 and 35, this competition will give you the attention you deserve. The gas industry is filled with vibrant, innovative young people and this is their chance to showcase their work. It looks great on your CV and entering is a fantastic way to build your confidence. Previous winners have gone on to get new jobs and promotions off the back of the IGEM YPPC, so it’s an opportunity not to be missed.”
Entrants who make it to the YPPC Final will compete for the top prize, to be announced at a later date. In addition, all the finalists get their papers published in IGEM’s respected journal Gi, which is read by 4,000 gas professionals around the world.
The closing date for submissions is 28 February 2019. Full details can be found at www.igem.org.uk/yppc
