The government is inviting comment on a wide range of proposals designed to decarbonise the UK’s domestic and commercial heating systems. The Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS) says it is seeking industry views on the future support of low carbon technologies beyond the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) which is set to close for commercial applicants from April 2021 and for homes and businesses in March 2022.
The consultation includes proposals for a ‘Clean Heat Grant’, which is designed to support the installation of heat pumps and, in certain circumstances, biomass, through an upfront capital grant. It is proposed that the support level could be up to £4000, delivered through a voucher system to target the upfront cost barrier and which will be available for projects up to a capacity of 45kW.
It also sets out the government’s intention to introduce a Green Gas Support Scheme, designed to increase the proportion of green has in the grid through the support for biomethane injection.
The consultation closes on the 7th July 2020 and can be accessed here: https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/future-support-for-low-carbon-heat.
