The Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering (CIPHE) has launched the latest update to its manifesto. Designed to shine a light on key industry issues, the document seeks to give parliament an insight into how the plumbing and heating industry underpins many key areas of government policy including, health, housing, energy, environment and education.

With a spotlight on ‘two for twenty-two’ priority areas, the 2022 manifesto includes recommendations to government across a number of key policy areas, including public health, energy, education and the environment. The publication clearly outlines some of the Chartered Institute’s key concerns and recommendations, such as the enforcement of Water Regulations, a fit-for-purpose training and education programme and the introduction of a ‘Licence to practice’.

Kevin Wellman, CIPHE CEO, comments: “As the Professional Body for the sector, and a registered educational charity dedicated to protecting the public health, the Institute is uniquely placed to give a voice to the industry, while upholding the interest of the general public, on matters that affect the very health and wealth of the nation.

“The manifesto is a living document, designed to move with the times. While the pressures caused by coronavirus have eased, we are undoubtedly navigating a period of huge upheaval and change. As the UK faces the effects of a dire energy crisis and the need for energy independence, the industry is once again at the centre of government policy in a most critical time of need. As heeded in manifestos before, the UK is going to need a plethora of skilled, qualified and competent engineers, in all disciplines, to achieve its domestic and international aims.”
