Cutting plastic pipe on site is rarely as simple as it looks. Whether it’s installing a new wastewater run or adapting existing pipework, clean cuts and consistent bevels are crucial for strong, leak-free joints. But getting both right usually means switching tools mid-task, slowing things down and increasing your chance of mistakes.

That’s why KNIPEX has developed the DPT50 (90 23 02 BK), a tool that cuts and chamfers thick-walled plastic pipes in one smooth motion. It looks almost identical to the DP50 but the difference lies in the details. Both cutters are designed for PVC and PP pipes with diameters of 32, 40 and 50 mm. But where the DP50 cut wall thicknesses of 1.8 to 2.4 mm, the new DPT50 cuts from 2.5 to 3.5 mm.

It’s easy to be both quick and accurate with the DPT50; it makes a clean cut and simultaneously bevels each pipe end to create a neat, adhesive ready edge. The chamfer helps ensure glue spreads evenly and joints are properly sealed, reducing the risk of leaks from poor fit. The way this tool cuts also means very little pressure is applied to the pipe so there’s little chance of breakage.

The DPT50 is built to endure site life, with a body made from glass fibre reinforced plastic over a chrome plated steel mechanism. A spring loaded blade maintains constant contact with the pipe so no adjustments are needed as you work. This blade can also be used on both sides – when one side becomes worn, simply pop it out, swap it round and you’re good to go again. Beneath the housing, self adjusting guide rollers with plain bearings grip the pipe securely without blocking visibility of the cut line. You can even cut short offcuts from as little as 10 mm length.

For site teams working in tight access zones beneath floors, inside cabinets or within duct trenches, the DPT50 strikes the right balance. The open guide area and slim blade design keep the cut line clearly visible, even when working with short offcuts or near fittings and the easy change blade and compact size lets you tackle a range of tasks without slowing down. It offers a rare combination of speed, durability and ergonomics, ensuring clean connections in high pressure environments. For installers who need fast, accurate results without the faff of switching tools, the DPT50 is built to keep pace and built to last.
