Ahead of Heat Pump Week (23 – 29 September), City Plumbing has released the dates of its latest accredited Air Source Heat Pump Installation Courses and has extended funding to bring the cost to just £160 plus VAT.

As demand for heat pumps rises, the need for trained installers has continued to skyrocket.

Recent data from the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) reported that more than 30,000 certified heat pumps were installed in homes and small businesses across the UK between January and July 2024, a 45% increase compared to the same period last year.

To help installers take advantage of this upsurge, City Plumbing has announced new dates for its courses run by GTEC Training:

● Salisbury – 1 October
● Farnborough – 5 November
● Farnborough – 26  November
● Bedford – 3 December
● Aylesford – 10 December

The Air Source Heat Pump Installation Course delivers the knowledge, skills and competency required to design, specify, install, commission and maintain domestic and small commercial air source heat pumps. During the course, installers will receive practical training practising on purpose-built live ASHP rigs.

On completion of the course, installers will achieve an LCL Awards Level 3 Certificate, which is recognised by the MCS. The three- day course costs just £160 + VAT thanks to £500 funding from the BEIS Home Decarbonisation Skills Training Competition.

“The start of the year has seen a massive surge in demand for heat pumps, and it’s only going in one direction,” says Hemal Morjaria, MD of City Plumbing’s Renewables and Electrical division.

“There’s a huge opportunity for heating engineers to take advantage of this demand and future-proof their business. However, we also get that taking time out for training is hard, especially in an industry where most people are self-employed.

“To help, we’ve been able to get government funding to reduce the cost. We hope that goes some way to making these courses more affordable and accessible for customers.”
