A plumber was found guilty of fly-tipping last week by Bromley Magistrates’ Court, prompting Bromley council to issue a reminder for residents to only employ registered waste carriers to remove rubbish.

Sergo Gvelesiani, owner of Gvelesiani of SG Building and Heating, was found guilty on two offences. On July 25, 20 black bags were found dumped in Kangley Bridge Road, filled with bricks, broken tiles and wood.

On September 5, a council officer found 30 black bags filled with plaster board, broken tiles, wood, and decorating and household waste, dumped on the same road.

In both incidents, council officers found information among the rubbish indicating who the people were that had employed Gvelesiani.

Gvelesiani of SG Building and Heating Ltd, registered at Pembroke Road, Bromley, was held jointly and severally liable, along with the company, and ordered to pay fines and costs at Bromley Magistrates’ Court last week.

Councillor Kate Lymer, executive councillor for public protection and enforcement, commented: “Ensuring prosecutions follow successful investigations is very much part of the work we are doing to prevent fly-tipping. Dumped rubbish and enviro-crimes of this kind are totally unacceptable and can be especially dangerous for drivers, and the health of residents and wildlife in the local area.

“Apart from being a crime that is costly for council tax payers, who ultimately end up paying the bill for removal, fly-tipping is a crime that is lazy, inconsiderate, and disrespectful to everybody who calls Bromley their home.

“We urge residents to always check to see if they’re employing registered waste carriers to carry out works for them, otherwise they may find themselves liable if their waste ends up littering our streets.”
