Sales of food waste disposers have risen significantly following the the Covid-19 pandemic and the subsequent UK lockdown in March 2020. According to manufacturer InSinkErator, UK consumers have been re-evaluating their homes to ensure they meet a wider range of needs, including enhancing the kitchen to support the increase in home cooking and being more hygienic. What’s more, several food waste collections were postponed at the height of the lockdown, to reduce the pressure on local council resources, leading to householders looking to other ways to address unpleasant food waste smells.
UK sales director Kevin Carr says: “Consumers have been approaching our retailers to find additional means to improve and increase hygiene in the kitchen because of the pandemic, which has resulted in additional sales for retailers of our food waste disposers. Over the past four months, we have had record volume sales month-on-month for our range of food waste disposers. With the increased demand for hygiene in the kitchen, we predict this trend will continue as we navigate the ‘new normal’.”
Throughout the pandemic, InSinkErator has conducted virtual training sessions and product demonstrations with its trade partners on its range of food waste disposers to provide additional support and answer any questions frequently asked by consumers. In addition, the training detailed the journey of food waste and its effect on the wider environment.
