The UK government has unveiled a new advertising campaign, ‘Warm and Fuzzy’, aimed at educating homeowners about the advantages of installing heat pumps. The initiative seeks to boost awareness and encourage the adoption of this technology.
The campaign features engaging content with cute, knitted characters in typical household settings, designed to make the information more accessible. It focuses on the financial incentive available through the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS), which offers homeowners a £7,500 grant for upgrading from traditional boilers to heat pumps.
The campaign also highlights the environmental benefits of heat pumps, which can significantly reduce a household’s carbon footprint by up to 70% compared to gas boilers. It stresses the comfort that heat pumps provide, effectively keeping homes warm and cosy.
To qualify for the BUS grant, homeowners must own the property, have a valid Energy Performance Certificate (EPC), and be replacing a fossil fuel heating system such as oil, gas, or LPG. Most homes are deemed suitable for heat pump installation.
The campaign highlights the increasing production of low-carbon electricity in the UK, which is expected to lessen reliance on imported gas and improve energy security.
Stewart Clements, director HHIC, attended the launch of the ‘Warm and Fuzzy’ campaign on Tuesday 4th March. He says: “HHIC and our members support the government’s campaign to educate homeowners on the benefits of having a heat pump installed. Manufacturers and heating engineers are already aware of the environmental and energy saving benefits of heat pumps.
“Now, in order to increase demand and reach the government’s installation targets, it’s time to spread these important messages among homeowners.
“Heat pumps can produce carbon savings of up to 70% (compared to a gas boiler) and the opportunity that households could save on energy bills by using a smart tariff. Importantly, as we produce more low carbon electricity here in the UK, we won’t have to rely on imported gas, which in turn contributes to our energy security.”
