A hybrid heating system has been installed at Grantham Health Centre in Lincolnshire to replace the previous gas boilers. The system combines Hamworthy Heating’s Stratton mk3 wall-hung condensing boilers with a Tyneham 50 kW 290HT air source heat pump.
The heat pump provides primary heating when conditions allow, with the boilers supplying additional output or higher temperatures as needed.
A 500-litre buffer vessel with an integrated back-up heater helps stabilise flow temperatures, while a building management system controls sequencing between the heat sources. The equipment was connected to the existing heating distribution network to avoid major internal alterations.
Installation took place while the centre remained operational, using a temporary boiler to maintain heating and hot water. Gas connection works were carried out over a weekend.
