A new smart heating system, which integrates a heat pump, controls, room sensors, a bespoke tariff and an exclusive service package, has been unveiled by Octopus Energy. Said to pave the way for “heat pumps for everyone” the new ‘Cosy Octopus’ system will effectively be offered for free for homes that won’t need any work to fit the system (as a result of the Boiler Upgrade Scheme) while homes that need adjustments – such as new radiators, piping or a hot water tank – will get the system from around £3000 after the grant.
The system will be available from December with a UK designed and manufactured 6kW heat pump – aimed at a typical three-bed home – with more and larger models following over the next six months. The heat pump, which is produced in Craigavon, Northern Ireland, has six patent applications pending and is said to offer an attractive alternative to the “ugly heat pumps” currently on the market.
Speaking at the product launch, Greg Jackson, CEO and Founder of Octopus Energy Group, comments: “This is a huge day for clean heating. The combination of a high-temperature heat pump (as hot as a gas boiler), Octopus smart tariffs and room sensors across your home doesn’t just open up cheaper clean heating – but more comfort too.”
