A radio station created with London tradespeople as its main audience was recently launched, with Pimlico Plumbers boss Charlie Mullins invited as guest of honour to kick off the station’s first ever Breakfast Show.

Broadcasting on DAB digital radio in London and available across the UK through its website and smartphone apps, Fix Radio plays a variety of upbeat music from the 70s, 80, 90s, 00s and now with a no-repeat guarantee between 6am-6pm. For its listeners in London, the station will also broadcast detailed weather forecasts from the Met Office three times a day to help tradespeople plan their outdoor work schedules.

Charlie Mullins joined presenters Trev and Ben for some banter and great music and was given the honour of pressing the button to play the show’s first track, the 80s classic, ‘We Built This City’ by Starship. He comments: “I was over the moon to be asked to help kick off Fix Radio. I love the idea of a radio station dedicated to the hardworking tradespeople all over Britain. It’ll certainly be playing in the Pimlico Plumbers’ vans as our engineers get to work across the capital. I really enjoyed the banter with the breakfast boys, Trev and Ben, and I think tradespeople will love what they’re doing.”

Paul Baker, Fix Radio programme director who will also present the daily drive show, says: “We’ll be playing a wide variety of music with banter and fun aimed at tradespeople. As they listen to the radio all day, builders hate hearing the same old songs over and over again on other stations, so we’ll have a daily no-repeat music guarantee. We’ll also be providing London’s most detailed weather forecast from the Met Office as this is vital for tradespeople who work outside to plan their work.”

Paul Chantler, one of the station’s founders, adds: “The launch of Fix Radio is the culmination of 18 months of fundraising, research and development. We’re very excited to see it all come together at last and we were really grateful to Charlie for helping launch the station.”
