Three employees of Connect Plumbing and Heating Supplies have been sentenced after stealing more than £12,000 of boilers and parts and pocketing the cash meant for the tills.

The Basildon Canvey Southend Echo reported that Scott Spencer (31, of Great Knightleys, Basildon), James Challis (33, of Seaview Road, Canvey) and Thomas Aungier (28, of Eastern Esplanade, Canvey) were sentenced at Basildon Crown Court.

The director of Connect Plumbing and Heating, Marc Glass, had told police that a worker was selling company goods and pocketing the cash for himself. Further investigation of CCTV footage showed all three defendants selling the company’s goods, but the money never went into the tills. In total, the defendants stole £12,489 and split it among themselves.

James Challis was handed a nine month sentence suspended for 18 months and ordered to complete 100 hours of unpaid work and to pay £2000 in compensation.

Scott Spencer received a sentence of a year, suspended for 18 months, and ordered to complete 150 hours of unpaid work and pay £4000 in compensation.

Thomas Aungier was given a sentence of 16 months suspended for two years, told to complete 300 hours of unpaid work and ordered to pay compensation of £6000.
