An analysis of over 10,000 online customer reviews left by householders for tradespeople suggests that professionalism, quality of work and punctuality are the big three points in people’s minds when forming their evaluations.
Mylocaltoolbox.co.uk used AI to comb through thousands of online comments to find the phrases that stood out most in writing about the performance of 12 different trades, including plumbers and heating engineers.
It found that the traits customers talk about the most are professionalism at 42%, how well the work was done at 34%, and being on time at 13%.

Plumbers and heating engineers scored highly within several of the five traits investigated, with heating engineers taking top place on the question of punctuality. Plumbers came in fourth in the same category.

The study also investigated which trades are most likely to be recommended, with heating engineers placing fifth (49%), behind tilers (57%), painters (56%), plasterers (53%) and handymen (49%).
However, plumbers and heating engineers ranked first and second, respectively, when it comes to calling back their customers.
