Navien’s NCB700 ON Combi Crossover boiler has given a family home in East Sussex a boiler that meets daily hot water demands while saving space in the home. It is now providing  consistent and endless hot water without requiring a bulky cylinder. The boiler’s ON technology and NaviCirc smart recirculation system allows for quick hot water availability, even with multiple showers running. By eliminating the need for a cylinder, the NCB700 ON freed up valuable storage space, and intelligent controls allow precise management of the heating and hot water across different zones of the house. The system’s efficiency features, like Smart Forecast and Geofencing, ensures energy is only used when needed.

In the past, a large combi boiler accompanied by a bulky cylinder may have been recommended, but at the cost of essential space, speedy heat-up times and consistent temperatures. Fast forward to today, and the installer on the project was aware of a new boiler on the market that could meet the family’s needs with no compromises.

The installer recommended Navien’s NCB700 ON Combi Crossover for its unmatched technology, delivering consistent and endless hot water together with NaviCircTM smart recirculation for up to three showers at once, regardless of the time of day.

With no cylinder required, the NCB700 ON made sense as a space-saving solution for this busy home, enabling the customer to regain the use of their airing cupboard for much-needed storage.

Typically, boilers without a cylinder struggle in larger, multi-occupancy homes, especially those with several bathrooms or ensuites. However, a boiler with a large cylinder is also not ideal in most cases as it means lower flow rates and longer waits for the water to heat up.

Providing a solution to this challenge, Navien introduced its breakthrough ON technology. The efficiency of ON technology was evidenced almost immediately after installation of the NCB700 ON, with the customer noting the straightforward installation and availability of hot water in under 10 seconds, stating: “it gives us intelligent and consistent hot water with the same stability as our unvented cylinder”. The customer concluded that there was no competition for Navien’s ON capabilities.

In every box of the NCB700 ON comes the NaviCirc, a valve which aids the boiler in enabling the secondary recirculation to go around the system. Fitted at the furthest hot water outlet away from the boiler, whether underneath the sink or near a shower, the NaviCircTM uses the thermostatic valve within the boiler to block circulation once the water temperature reaches 35°C. The pump within the NCB700 ON recognises this action and stops circulating the domestic hot water until a hot water outlet is turned on, providing hot water within a matter of seconds.

The customer was expecting NaviCirc to be a large device, requiring a lot of power, so they were pleasantly surprised when they saw how compact it was, with no need for power either. Instead, the valve fitted neatly under their kitchen sink. As well as this, they will now be able to save up to 7,787 litres of water per year, making a huge difference to the planet.

Coupled with the NCB700 ON’s intelligent technology, which adapts to user habits to maximise efficiency, the customer had no issues when simultaneously using all available hot water outlets, describing it as ‘working effortlessly’. Despite their demanding daily hot water requirements, they noted the NCB700 ON’s quietness, particularly during its morning switch-on, which is necessary to minimise disruption in an already busy household.

Zone control

The customer also opted for an intelligent Smart Plus control pack, which works in harmony with the NCB700 ON and facilitates complete hot water control throughout the home.

The pack provides control for up to three heating zones and allows individual spaces to be heated to a specific temperature, at different times of day, meaning that everyone’s personal preferences can be met.

In addition to its zoning capabilities, the Smart Plus Controller houses a Smart Forecast and Geofencing tool, both of which ensure that the boiler only uses energy when needed. Smart Forecast harnesses data from OpenWeatherMap to respond intuitively to the current local weather conditions to ensure the home remains at a comfortable temperature, without user interaction. Its Geofencing capabilities allows users to switch the boiler on or off, purely based on their proximity from the property which can be set up to a maximum radius of 5km – a particularly useful feature when returning home from work.

Space-saving, home-changing

The space-saving benefits of the NCB700 ON were clear from the outset, allowing the installer to maximise the size of the landing area by making better use of the airing cupboard. As a hot water cylinder was no longer required, the regained cupboard space was much needed for this busy family home. All of this was made possible without losing hot water thanks to Navien’s ON technology.

Ultimately, both the installer and customer were highly satisfied with the installation and ongoing capabilities of the NCB700 ON with everything working perfectly from the outset.

Increased storage space within the home was successfully achieved, while the household also benefits from the unmatched hot water availability of ON and NaviCircTM. With up to 12-years warranty, the NCB700 ON is set to offer incredible functionality to the customer and their family for years to come, resulting in total and lasting peace of mind.
