The Mercedes-Benz Sprinter has been named the UK’s most reliable van at the 2026 FN50 Awards, reclaiming the title for the first time since 2023.

For installers, plumbers and heating engineers, whose work depends on having their tools and equipment readily available, an unreliable van can mean missed appointments, disrupted jobs and lost income. The award recognises the importance of vehicle reliability to businesses that depend on their vans every working day.

The award is based on data from the UK’s leading leasing companies, which assess vehicle reliability according to the average number of days vans spend off the road due to unplanned mechanical problems.

The Sprinter has consistently ranked among the top two models for reliability over the past 12 years, having previously held the title from 2015 to 2023.

Simon Neill, operations director at Mercedes-Benz Vans, says:

“We know just how much businesses depend on their vans. Whether it’s carrying tools, people, parcels or prescriptions, it’s also carrying a promise. A promise of a job completed, a service kept and customers looked after, so reliability really is everything.

“That’s why we’re incredibly proud to see the Sprinter recognised as the UK’s most reliable van. It’s a fantastic achievement and a real testament to the hard work of our teams and dealer partners, who go above and beyond to keep our customers moving.

The manufacturer has also retained second place in the FN50 rankings for its support of UK fleets and leasing companies.

Mercedes-Benz Vans has continued to invest in its Uptime Promise service, which combines connected technology, proactive maintenance and servicing support to identify potential vehicle problems before they result in unplanned downtime.

Stephen Briers, group editor at Fleet News, says:

“The Sprinter returns to the top of the FN50 reliability league table thanks to its excellent quality and incredible durability. For the past 12 years, the Sprinter has placed top two for reliability, and it reclaims its crown last won in 2023. For consistency, there has been no better van, according to the UK’s largest leasing companies.”
