Continuing its efforts to help tradespeople protect themselves againt tool theft, Williams Plumbing & Heating Supplies will be touring the country in September with its new Tool Crime Roadshow.

The plumbers’ merchant has teamed up with The National Business Crime Centre and SelectaDNA to host a Tool Crime pop-up station, scheduled to take a bow at eight Williams trade counters across England.

On the day of each event, from 7.30am to 1.00pm, tradespeople will have the chance to get their tools marked and registered for a “significantly” discounted price, courtesy of SelectaDNA.

SelectaDNA is a forensic marking system designed to reduce theft and burglaries by coding valuable possessions with unique, synthetic DNA, and using warning labels to alert criminals that the property is protected.

Ray Stafford, director of Williams Trade Supplies, says: “Tool marking is a vital part of reducing tool crime. It deters thieves from targeting your van, it increases the chances of the police getting a conviction and if your tools are stolen, it is much more likely that they will be returned to you in the future. We are very pleased to be working with the Police and SelectaDNA in this ground-breaking initiative which we hope will spread throughout the industry.”

Williams is also working against tool thef through its other initiative: Tool Angel. This programme provides an immediate secure set of loan power tools to keep a victim’s business viable in the first weeks after the crime occurs.
