The new Activair R290 from Trianco is an indoor air/water heat pump designed for properties where an outdoor unit isn’t feasible, such as flats without balconies or homes with limited outside space.

It supplies both heating and hot water when fitted with a domestic hot water cylinder, and is available as a wall-mounted 3.2kW unit or a floor-standing 5kW unit, suited to small and medium-sized homes.

Externally, only two vents are visible; internally, the unit is similar in size to a domestic boiler. It can also provide air cooling in properties fitted with fan coils instead of radiators.

The unit includes remote diagnostics and monitoring via an internal 4G data transfer unit, allowing faults to be detected and diagnosed remotely, which can reduce the need for service visits.

Peter Beighton at Trianco, explains:

“By eliminating the need for an outdoor unit, they provide a discreet, space-saving solution that can be installed in airing cupboards, garages or loft spaces alongside a hot water cylinder. Designed for outstanding energy performance, Activair R290 Indoor Heat Pumps can help homes achieve an EPC A rating, depending on the overall system design. This delivers exceptional energy efficiency, lower running costs and reduced carbon emissions, helping developers build future-ready homes that meet the demands of today’s buyers.”

The units are said to be straightforward to install, with an optimised air duct design intended to reduce energy loss and running costs. The compressor is enclosed in composite silencing material to reduce noise and vibration.

The heat pump can be controlled remotely via the Warmlink app. It also includes a gas separator and R290 leak detector, which monitors refrigerant concentration and triggers shut-down protection and venting if levels exceed preset thresholds.
