Talented young plumbers are invited to enter this year’s SkillPLUMB competition. Registration is open until 1st April 2022 for trainee plumbers and entries can be made by colleges, training providers or employers via the World Skills UK website (see below).

The SkillPLUMB competition enables candidates to test their expertise in a series of challenging practical tests in a bid to be named SkillPLUMB UK Champion. New for 2022 is the passive stage, to take place during April, where all candidates will complete an initial plumbing task at their local training centre or college. Once completed, selected candidates will be invited to take part in a regional heat.

Throughout May and June, several regional events are being held across the UK and those who score the highest will progress to a grand UK final to be held in November. Competitors will be required to perform plumbing skills at the standard set in the plumbing qualifications at Level 2/3 and will be asked to complete a task with all these skills in a time of four hours.

“We’re delighted to announce that the SkillPLUMB competition is back at last – it will be amazing to see plumbing competitors back in action this year, and to welcome Monument Tools as our lead sponsor,” says Neil Collishaw, BPEC CEO. “We would like to thank Monument and all of our other sponsors for their invaluable support for this fantastic competition.”

There are several resources available on the BPEC website to help select a potential competitor, with a talent spotting checklist, pre-competition task with marking scheme and detailed information in the resource Training to Succeed: www.bpec.org.uk/the-bpec-charity/activities/skillplumb
